Technique: Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets knots and releases chronic muscle tension.  The focus is on the deepest layers in the muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia which is the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones, and joints.

In addition to releasing tension and knots, deep issue massage benefits clients in reducing inflammation and eliminating scar tissue from any type injury, minor or major.

To preform deep tissue massage, the Massage Therapist uses strokes going across the grain of the muscles. Although you may find the strokes similar to the technique of the swedish massage, this is primarily where it differs. Swedish massage techniques go with the grain of the muscles.

The results from the deep tissue massage techniques are often seen a couple days after the massage. This timing comes because deep tissue has a more intense pressure in the technique. It is not considered fully-relaxing, but more refreshing. It can be a "good" uncomfortable working out those tense muscles and knots. Often the muscles are sore after the massage from being "worked out." The results, again after a couple days, are the desired relaxed muscles and overall pain relief from those areas.
